Dremel the top off?

I have this memory;

Patriot Black Mamba 3 and I have 16GB of it spare which I want to fit into a 1U itx based server however the case I am looking at is 44.5mm tall and the RAM is 41mm tall.

By the time it's mounted on the board I'm guessing it will be just too tall.

Would it be detrimental to the RAM if I dremel the top of the heatsink off?

Opinions please...

Use a hairdryer and remove the heatsinks. I have some running at 2GHz without heatsinks.

they only attach with some sticky pads,heat them up and pull them loose

saves destroying the whole heatsink if you cut them
