Dress code "smart blacks"?

This is a genuine question, I'm working today and I have been asked to wear "smart blacks". A google surprisingly showed nothing of help.

I'm guessing it's a black suit, smart shoes, but what shirt and tie combination? White shirt black tie? White shirt any tie? Black shirt dark tie? Black shirt black tie?

Some AV support for a corporate client. It's an evening do, so I'm thinking it is a bit more "smart" than a business white/light shirt and tie...

If it is a black tie affair, then a bow tie is normally a prerequisite.

Well that's gone and thrown a curved ball into the situation! Haha! I think I'll just take a selection of ties (including a bow tie) and a spare black shirt. That way I'm covered!
