Awsome weekend, took some piccies of the drifitng. Not amazingly good, but it's the first time i've ever photographed anything motorsport wise so i'm pretty happy.

Bigger versions are on my flickr page.

^Love this, simply cause it's a battered S13 with a tow bar!

It was very fast though! But he did seem to have a few problems getting it sideways.

Sadly I didn't get any pics of the Driftworks car that binned it into the barrier

I asked if I could take my scoob on the track, I have track insurance, helmet etc.. they said no four wheel drive cars.....then let a skyline on :(

I went and had a look, it is surprisingly boring to watch. One of the cars that went on while I was there (grey s13) was absolute pants, couldn't get it sideways, i'd be dissapointed to pay a tenner for a ride in that lol.

you'll probably find it was a RWD skyline. 4WD cars arent allowed to compete in drifting series as its far too easy to slide them.

I thought the whole drifting thing was a serious accident waiting to happen and they were lucky to get away with it. We were down there at the very end of Saturday and positioned ourselves in line with the corner at one end so vix could take some pics. I took one look at the barrier arrangements and the first thing I said to vix was "Don't take your eye off the car and be prepared to run".

Second car out binned it at the the other end straight through the 2 rows of barriers. Luckily the crowd had scattered but i'm sure a serious incident was only avoided because it was the end of the day and there were less people about. The next day there were kids sitting on the bottom rail of the barrier right in the firing line who wouldn't have the awareness or the agility to see a car coming towards them and get out of the way.

I never understand this when I see this topic come up on this and other forums. Without shifting any bias via the DCCD to the rear, I'd hate to think of what sort of speed I'd have to enter a corner, initiate the drift and then actually maintain it in the scoob. But in my old 200SX, it was, on a very small and unprofessional scale, a doddle.

Needell had real issues drifting the RS4 compared to the M3. I'd love to be enlightened on why AWD is banned in the D1 series...not that I disbelieve you, but I just don't get the "awd drifting is a piece of ****" idea. Not on dry tarmac, anyway.

Because with a RWD if you go in too fast/hard the rear will get too wide and the car wil just pirouette around the fronts even on full lock. With drive to the fronts too they can pull the front round too preventing it from going into a spin and you could hold that for as long as you like. Obviously you will need the drive to be biased to the rear else it will just pull you back into a straight line, and the higher the speed the better, but the D1 guys often enter their slides at over 100mph.
