Hi All

Just a very quick question as per the title, I need to drilla 40 mm hole in the ceiling to put through some waste pipe to enable me to pass cables down from the loft easily.

Would it be ok to use a Forstner Bit to do this, it's just normal plaster board I'll be drilling?

I can pick up a bit for about £3 but wanted to check it was ok to use this..ie would it do the job ok?

Thanks

Might be a bit more dusty than a hole saw but other than that go for it, personally for one home I'd use an old knife, hacksaw blade or padsaw rather than buy a bit specifically, If its just plasterboard you could use a butter knife is you felt like it!

Thing is i'd probably use the bit quite a lot for crafts that my girlfriend makes so the purchase isn't a problem... Oh and it's cheap...

Just make out the circle & drill a series of small holes around it, & finish off removing it with a knife.

Trying to use small holes and cut will be tricky as it's right in a corner with chimney breast one side and joists on two other sides so getting to it will be really hard, hence I thought just get a bit to go through it.

Good thinking, I'll give that a go!!

Spoke to my Dad last night, he has a hole saw set so I'm gonna have a look and see if he has a suitably sized cutter...

When I was searching yesterday for a 40mm drill bit, I was in a bit of a rush and forgot they were caleld hole saws until later when I was talking to my parents.

I'll borrow my dads hole saw set for now and get my own when I'm not quite so skint...
