drill bit size for fan screw holes

What size drill bit would I need for fan screw holes? Looking at a fan, the screw holes are 4mm, so one that size and then a 2mm bit for drilling pilot holes. Having not done this before just want to make sure I've got the basics right.

That sounds about right. Remember that most fans use self tapping screws, so the screw will want to be slightly larger than the hole in the fan. I tend to use a small a drill as possible for the pilot hole, so i'd be tempted to get a 1.5mm or even 1mm drill for that.
