Hi

As per title I need to drill an approx 15mm hole through a catnic / lintel above a double width garage door. The hole is to take a cable from inside to outside the garage.

The lintel is perforated (lots of holes) on the inner side, followed by a cavity, followed by the other side of the lintel, followed by single width brick, then outside.

Would good quality HSS drill bits on a domestic drill eat their way through the lintel or would it not be worth even trying? Also, any other recommendations other than relocating the hole?

Thank you

Thanks for the replies.

I'm pretty good at general DIY etc and no worries with the brickwork. Never had to drill into metal lintels though other than a pilot hole for a self tapper (blinds) which was a pain. I assumed drilling a larger hole would be a no-go but from the replies I'll go and invest in a decent set of (long) HSS bits, starting small then working up.

Thank you.
