Drink Driving

and came up at only 10mg.

a friend of mine got caught at 1.5 times the limit. i got the call whilst walking home at 3am. he had dumped a parked car, his passenger had passed out and didnt remember a thing and the driver was battered

i had been out with them since 11pm and i was trashed, i found out after that they had been out since 6pm and drinking at the same pace the whole night.

his 1.5x the limit seems unhuman seeing as the rest of us were in pieces and hed drunk as much or more!

My partner at the time's nephew was having a serious allergic reaction and needed to get to hospital as quickly as possible. I weighed up how much I had drunk, how much that alcohol had effected me and the fact there was no other option for them (short of an ambulance that would have had to travel twice the distance) and decided the circumstances required it. The other time it happened, there was simply no excuse, no good reason - totally inexcusable.

Joshy, you'll generally find older people have a much different view on drink driving - the stigma surrounding drink driving today is the result of a huge advertising campaign, as it was never frowned upon so badly years ago.

Yeah various colleagues at work had been caught, one friend of a friend also has a habit of literally riving with a beer in one hand and a joint in his other. It's extremely stupid but some just think they can still drive when they've had alcohol, usually I'd never wish someone to be caught for a driving offense but alcohol is a different matter, if someone's had more than 2 drinks they deserve to be caught. I hope they will grow out of it. Yeah some may handle it, but some people are knackered even after 2 pints. I know I wouldn't be able to drive well after 2 pints, I feel slightly tipsy after 1 pint.

I think the stigma around it is largely justified.

I don't understand why her friends let her do it, and are not even feeling sorry for her!

It's simple, it's not their responsibility. If you're driving to a night out, just don't drink. It's as simple as that.

Getting drunk then blaming your mates for not stopping you as you make your way home in the car is not an excuse. And by the looks of it, one of them tried reasoning with her, but she just wasn't having it.

I was out last night with a large group of friends on a very heavy one. 1 of the girls lives near me and was driving and a bit down cause she wasn't drinking so I said we'd share a taxi and she could just leave her car in town.

Brilliant, she grabbed a glass of wine.

Few hours later she her boyfriend stormed off over something silly, she got a bit annoyed and drove home.

No idea how much she'd had, but one moment she was there the next she wasn't.

When I lived in florida i was amazed how many people habitually drunk and drove. I think the stigma has krept up there now but this was about 12 years ago.

Many of my friends thought nothing of it. I think there are several factors: in Flroida at leatst they see driving as a right and have no real concept of public transport (except for the dirt-poor), nothing is really walkable, they drink to get drunk (not saying we don't but americans seem to have removed the fun drinking culture and it is just about getting hammered) and they hadn't at that point achieved a good level of education / stigma. I was definitely thought of as an old woman for thinking it was not sound.

I find it terrible that her friends are asking if she is alright etc. If I found out my friend had been drink driving I'd be ranting like hell at them, not feeling sorry for them.

one thing i am concerned about is that as Mike said, 20-25 years ago, drink driving was more acceptable than it is now. today its seen as the devil's past time

nowadays, speeding is seen as almost acceptable, everyone does it.

in 20-25 years time, whose betting that speeding is almost completely stamped out due to the campaigners

I very much doubt it. Speeding is not dangerous if it is done in the right place and within reason. I reckon that 5-10% of people dont speed when they are on a motorway. Thats not dangerous.

20-25 years ago you would have been a hell of a lot less likely to meet a lot of traffic on our road so peoples views changed as the roads became busier and more dangerous. So many road laws, rules and speed limits have changed due to the changing use of the roads.

People will still be speeding in 100 years let alone 20 since it is something that is not black and white. Some places it is suicidal to speed and other places you could go double the speed limit and be perfectly safe.

I think that if you drink drive you should be banned for a very long time. Regardless of the reasons unless someone was going to die unless you drove. Speeding doesnt come near it for me.

Happens all the time in Houston, people think nothing of it. Surprises me no end because the cops over there have a very obvious presence around weekends and evenings.

I wouldn't contemplate drink driving, let alone drunk driving. My life and my work would be very problematic if I lost my license.

I would try my best to stop any friend from driving if they'd had a lot to drink and would expect the same from them.
