Drinking at work

I drink pretty much every day at work. What's the problem, it's fine if you can handle your drink. If you get disoriented over 2 pints then I guess you should refrain from doing so.

This wasn't me drinking at work, but something I saw a couple of years ago. I was going offshore out of Norwich, where the Bristows helicopter check-in is right next to the bar in the check-in area at Norwich Airport. All the offshore guys sit around there waiting for the check-in time, or to be called through to security, so I'm sitting there watching the flight before mine check in and one of the guys checks in, heads round to the bar and buys a pint and promptly sits down at one of the tables pretty much in front of the check in girls at the desk. Everyone just sits and looks at him for a few seconds in shock as he takes a gulp then they call over security.

Probable result? Sacked on the spot by his company.

Gone are thedays when nipping off for a pint was acceptable. I suppose I manned up a lot when I got my first job in a warehouse when I was 17. Playing pool, smoking and having a pint with your pub lunch was the norm.

Then going to college where having a pint or something else at lunch was mandatory.

i was running a family fun day at work once, where all the beer was free for staff and drank from 10am till 6pm was totaly hammered and was then told "you do realise there is 40 people booked in tonight for food dont you" well how they all get fed ill bever know (only me and a pot wash in)

ive never drank alcohol at work since

Done it occasionally on a Friday - often when someone is due to leave the company and a group will go for a meal together.

Its often used to soften up clients - particularly if a project is running behind a bit, get the clients drunk at lunch time you build up a rapport with them, lunch runs a bit longer than expected and they cover much less ground than intended when checking up on the progress of the project.

Tis very common at our European offices to drink every day at lunch - at one office they have a bottle of red and a bottle of white at every table- obv people just have a glass with their food and don't get hammered.

Every lecturer i know goes to the pub at lunch.

D*mn I must be working at the wrong Uni's none of my coworkers or I drink at lunch but when I worked in industry it was standard on fridays for a pint and pub lunch

Then i realized this was actually the guy from archives drink who was on the slot machine.

I guess you work in the entertainment industry for your place to have fruit machines? Bar, club, bowling alley, arcade?

In my old job 2003-2009, we'd sometimes celebrate with a glass of bubbly with the managing director. Small IT firm. Drinking in my current job 2010-present is an absolute no-no, not even lunch times. Local gov't.

College IT department, at christmas we'd all have irish coffees around the network team meeting table, they were like 50% Jamesons. Then drive to the place to eat and have a pint or two, get back to the office and attempt to do work but as there is no one there it was just a social club atmosphere for the rest of the day :D

I once showed up to work still drunk from the night before. Thankfully I forgot the shift happened so it was like getting free money.

Why would you even consider drinking during work hours? wouldn't that get you fired?

Worst I ever did was go out drinking the night before a 7am start, had to get my girlfriend to drive me in and I felt **** till about 1pm.

I used to have a beer during lunch at college but I drink copious amounts of Diet Coke at work.

Every Christmas my dad takes his staff down to the local pub and buys a round of drinks for them all, but he only employs about 6 people. Then my mum drives home (because she doesnt drink) after my dad gets significantly drunk. I used to go when I was younger, it was really fun to see what my dad was like outside a work environment

Head over to Wolves, it was a long running joke between the guys on my house mates course that if you were looking for a certain couple of lecturers they would be across the road with a bottle of red each and some cigars.

I work in an accountancy firm and a fair amount of the office have a pint or two at lunch, I guess it depends where you work whats acceptable.
