What's the main dresscode?

Will smart casual be ok? I've been told that without shoes and a shirt, nowhere will let me in...

I normally wear smart looking chinos, smart polo shirt and a smart pair of grey pump like shoes.

Thanks

You should be fine for the majority of places, although I'd stick some proper shoes on just to be sure.
To be fair in the few times I've been over there I've only been turned away from one place and that's because I was English rather than because of what I was wearing.

I'm hoping to wear the Cork Hurling team jersey that my Irish boss has asked me to wear as a joke until 8'ish.

Thanks for the answers guys :) It's a stag I've organised for my mate and I just don't want us being turned away for dress code. Chances are we will be turned down because we are a stag... Only 5 of us though. So might be ok.

Just make sure you are prepared for the astronomical prices as well!

It's not as bad as it used to be, the last time I was there was November last year and didn't pay more than 5 Euro for a pint of Guinness around Temple Bar which for a city is about normal.

London prices? As those are ok, £5 a pint is the norm. So that's what, 6 euros...

It can't be worse than Copenhagen, that place was insane. £15 for a beer and a glass of wine.

Just come back from a month in Dublin, 5-6 euro a pint is pretty much standard everywhere (found Temple Bar to be one of the cheapest at 5.20 euro a pint).

I also got into all pubs (inc. Cafe en Seine which everyone I mentioned to seemed to think it's a posh place) in my shorts and I'm english and didn't get turned away from anywhere.

Also the O'Connell Street side of the river seems to be accepted as the cheaper side than the Grafton Street side (which is where Temple Bar is).

I lived in Dublin for 4 years and never wore shoes/shirt to go out. Never got turned away from anywhere. There will be many many people out in GAA jerseys that day, you'll blend right in!

Just some simple advice for drinking in Dublin. Re-mortgage your house. If you rent, stop renting. Then you MAY have enough for a half a pint of Guinness.

You've obviously got a please rip me off look about you if they were charging you that much.

Ok, by going on general word of mouth, it seems people are slightly exaggerating. Copenhagen, Sweden and London seem to be the same, and even more for Copenhagen, expensive. So really not that worried.

It's hardly like I'm going over there with £30. But thanks for the heads up :)

Didn't find it too bad when I was over for my 21st...4 years ago. Hard rock cafe was by far the cheapest pint we found. The Bull and Castle is a cool place to drink as well as the Temple bar area, also we stumbled across a place called The Dawson Lounge, which is apparently the smallest pub in Dublin, worth a visit for a laugh.

Over a whole weekend and 3 nights out, we didn't get turned away from anywhere and I don't recall any of us wearing anything other than jeans and trainers.

Last time I was over there, at one of the pubs in temple bar they wanted 5 euro 50 for a Guinness (for me).

The wife wanted a Bacardi and diet Coke, that was 8 euro 50. 5.50 for the single bacardi, 3 euro for the can of diet coke. I was pretty close to refusing it at that price to be honest, I'm too polite for my own good.
