Drinking the laxative drink before a colonoscopy...

This and a good helping of Vaseline to the exit point is vital :)

Really, really no need!:p

4 Litres of stuff? Wow, I'm almost glad all I had to drink was a couple of glasses of Picolax (a few times). Nasty vile tasting stuf but at least there's not much of it.

I have had to do it 3 times now and i,m sure it gets worse every time. I have quite bad Ulcerative Colitis which has been ongoing for quite a while now, I have been of sick for the past 8 months and i,m hoping the hospital are going to go ahead and operate early this year. I have tried lots of different drugs and nothing has really made a big difference.

Have you joined the NACC they offer some really good advice and are really helpfull. ?

Thats where i,m heading, The sooner the better fed up with cramps and really bored of my bathroom....
When I say it's all good I mean it's all good considering.....
Surgery was my last option and it enabled me to get back on with my life but there are obviously consequences to not having a colon.
I would hold off until all the other options have ended and hopefully it may never come to that.

I couldn't keep the stuff down, just kept throwing up after drinking it. I phoned the hospital and they sent out some much nicer tasting stuff (the other stuff must have cost a penny less I imagine) and re-arranged the appointment. You're right though, it is vile.

You're about to have a man shove a camera up your passage and you're complain about the drink beforehand? :p

Lol if you have IBS you get this experience for free without the drink.. (yes I have IBS according to the doctor)

Apparently I have IBS too I only get the runs after a night out!

I have the constipaty version I think, it's ruthlessly annoying.

Sad to say I did this and clicked on a blog. It has had me in stitches poor man mistook the date of the procedure. Great read. :D

Oh OP from what I have read I would invest in some decent moist toilette tissue the type used by sensitive females as you will need it.

Good luck.

That blog as the first hit from google is the funniest thing I have read in ages. I was crying.

how are you getting on with uc ?

I'm OK, at the very bottom of the ladder of treatment with minor Asacol for teh past three years, I have no problems no pains nothing, consider myself to be lucky not to be worse, in fact you should consider yourself lucky to have UC and not Crohn's

I hopefully only have two more years of tablets then they may think about taking me off them and just monitoring, here's hoping I detest taking tablets.

Have tried pretty much everything the hospital have now, Even a big dose of steroids does not help which it used to. I get constant cramps worse at night which stop me sleeping and visit the bathroom way too much. I,m seeing the consultant at the end of the month to discuss surgery and what is the next stage. Really just want to try and get some sort of life back now have been off work for 8 months and have only been out a handfull of times as its too much hassle. I,m also taking far too many drugs for my liking and dread to think what they are doing to the rest of my body although my blood tests have always been ok i still dont like taking so many drugs.

Best thing I did was stop taking tablets for my UC, all the asacol did was give me cramps and more pain. I keep a pack of prednisolone handy for very bad days and just pop 20mg to calm things down.
