I am renting and at night there is this realy loud dripping sound. I say a dripping sound but it is pretty loud for a drip. One night i was timing it and it was making the noise about every 20-30 seconds and it was pretty consistent. I tried following the sound but i could not pin point it exactly. I think it is coming from within the wall. It is definitely not coming from outside or the roof. My initial guess was that it was water tank refilling and it was dripping or it was a leaky pipe, there does appear to have been some water damage from the past but that has since dried up. Any idea what it could be, i told the landlord and he has ignored me.

Not realy, but it is difficult to pin point. Once i thought there was a cricket under my floor and it was actually the smoke alarm telling me it needed new batteries. I put up with the sound for almost a week thinking it was coming from under the floor.

What could a dripping sound be?

Deffo not the dripping/ticking sound of radiators cooling down?
If the tanks were leaking and it was dripping every 20 secs or so there would be water damage on the ceiling I guess
Could it be the condensate pipe from the boiler?
Leaking cistern on a toilet?
Slow dripping tap?

Does it happen when the heating's on?

I only have electric heating and it happens when the neighbour has finished showing, for some reason the neighbour likes to shower between 12am and 2am. But it happens even when the neighbour does not shower. But it sounds worse when the neighbour has finished showering.

*imagination running wild*

Maybe they're just into golden showers, hence the "showering" between 12-2am.

I hear a dripping noise all the time into my bedroom, its because of a straight down pipe which is boxed off into my radiator, when the pump is working cos the heating is on it'll start to drip and eventually flush down.

Perhaps we and you have too much air in the pipes.
