drive cleaner 2006

My pc is taking around 12 times on average just to boot up. Lines go down the screen and also go blurred . Record for rebooting is so far 30 minutes and then when i got onto the internet the first website i got onto went all blurred.

I have run spybot search and destroy and it picks up that the pc is infected with drive cleaner 2006. tried removing it with spybot but it does not get rid of it. Drive cleaner 2006 does not show up in add remove programs. Running kaspersky 6 and prevx 2.0 none of which pick this up. I am using zone alarm and windows xp pro.sp2.
Do any of you have any idea how to get rid of it. any help much appreciated.

Tried HijackThis? Follow the instructions in the two links to remove the processes and files.

Tried the links but unfortunately none of these picked up drive cleaner 2006.
Had to try several times as the screen keeps going blurred and there is no way to read it.

Tried reformatting already but it keeps copying all files. So after reformatting it is still infecting the pc!

Doesn't sound like you are formatting it, but simply repairing the install.

I will have another go at reformatting the pc this afternoon as i am going out for a while now.

Good idea mondo. If you're formatting you should be killing everything on the disk. I can't see how the spyware is coming back if you are reformatting.

It could be that the spyware is writing it self to ram then after format re-writing it self back.

I would use a win98 sec boot floppy then format using the util on the floppy

Could be. RAM is volatile so perhaps turning the PC off before formatting would help. And then turning it back on of course.

Reformatted the pc again but still had the same problem as before. Came back from town today and decided to put pc on and low and behold it asked to install hardware. Only thing i could think of was the installation disc for the mouse. put this in and it all worked straight away. Strange as it was all ok yesterday as the lights were all lit up on it. Anyway its all back up and running and back online.
