Hey, i just completed my first build a few days ago. I had problems when trying to install windows,(64bit vista).
When loading the windows files it would crash at the same point. The blue screen of death coming up.
It has 2 drives, a pioneer and a samsung lightscribe. The pioneer has an IDE cable and works ok. The samsung has a SATA cable and its this which was crashing the startup.I disconnected it and everything was ok.
Now i dont know much about computers, but think it must be connected up wrong? I just had the SATA cable going into any port on board along with the hard drive one.I had the power going to both.Think i tried parate power to each as well though which didnt help. Computer running ok the now with the one drive. Is there a way to connect them or set them up?
cheers Brian.
excuse the bad terminology also!! :p

if windows can see the drive then its not wired up wrong. Technically it can go in any SATA port but I usually start with port 1 and work up, etc.

blue screen of death's (BSOD's) when installing windows is usually RAM. if you have 2 sticks, take one out and try again. If it still does it, take the other one out etc.

How are you powering you're SATA-II drive? You need to make sure you are using the SATA power connector from the PSU. Just have a check!

I powered the disc drive from the same cable that was powering my hard drive? It has three sata connectors on it? Only fits in one place at the psu doesnt it?
The computer is running fine with that sata dvd disc drive unplugged (windows installed perfect with drive unplugged) and only the sata hard disc and my other dvd drive running.
i'm confused  :p
