Drive - Movie Thread.

Just finished watching this. Wish I knew exactly what it was before I started watching and would have saved myself 2 or however many hours.

A really boring film with some bits of violence and gore to spruce it up.

Also Gosling would make a fantastic T1000 in a Terminator 2 remake. I don't think he should have played that role in this film though.

Siiiiiiiiiigh ^^

Acting isn't all about dialogue you know people. A considerable amount is body language and the use of the eyes.

Do you not think the script writers sat down and intentionally gave Ryan hardly any dialogue? Cause I can assure you, it was intentional. Those pros eh, not a clue what they're doing.

I watched this for the third time yesterday. The opening 10 mins are just sublime.

I thought it was a decent film although not great. Love the throwback to the 80's sound track but felt the character development was it's major let down. Yes I know the lack of dialogue doesn't help but it still needed something more.

I know it was intentional and it sucked. I enjoyed the first 10 minutes but it was a major let down after that.

I enjoyed it.

I thought it was a very good film, not brilliant, but good. Moody and brooding in places. Gosling gave a very good performance.

I really enjoyed the score too, the editing and pace of the film were top notch.

Anyway, over riding feeling was that it's a got a little too much style over substance, very good though.

It took me two watched to get it. It sinks in much more convincingly the second time when you can switch off the preconceptions of what you thought it was going to be. Excellent movie.

Think thats its charm, its nice not to watch the same formula of movie time and time again because of the money involved, at least the director and writer had to fortitude to make their vision, rightly or wrongly this film suffers and achieves solely because of this...

ps3ud0

The first car chase scene in this movie was near perfection - a shame there wasn't a little more of it throughout.

Really enjoyed the film - although my wife did have to keep her eyes shut through some of the more graphic violence.

Yeah the opening sequence was excellent, overall I enjoyed the film (must have I've watched it twice to date) :)

I just made a thread about this as did not see this one in a search I did! Fantasitc film. It's the most memorable film I have watched in the last few years actually. I loved it. The sound track stodd out to me massively and I going to get a copy of that soon.
I went in with low expectations and knew nothing about it at all. I like to watch movies this way. I just loved the minimal dialogue, cinematography, the way it built, the sound track.... lovely. Unique.

i dont think i have ever seen ryan gosling before, so would like to see if he can portray other types of characters well. so i don't know how good he was at acting or if that's the way he is normally but the character he played was extremely weird.

I first noticed Gosling about 10 years in "The Believer", a largely unnotable film if not for the fact that he gave one of the most jaw-dropping acting performances I've ever seen - certainly the best this millennium - truly astonishing from such a young and, at the time, unknown actor. The film and story overall are nothing special but he carries the move and makes it watchable, he dominates most of his scenes and is thoroughly compelling. I really ought to watch it again sometime.

Anyway back on topic, watched this tonight and thought it was a good film if perhaps a little short - it felt like the retributions played out a bit quick. A bit better than I was expecting, and the soundtrack was excellent and a nice surprise. One element I particularly liked was that unlike the formulaic nature of most films, at no point was the main 'hero' truly overwhelmed, he was able to deal with everything thrown at him.

Regarding the gore/violence, to be honest I felt some of it was unnecessary. Take the diner scene for example, is it really necessary to stab the guy in the eye, have him screaming and spouting blood for a bit, then wade in again on the neck to finish him off? Not saying it was bad - maybe it was a crutch to drop the "now you can clean up my mess for once" line - I just don't think it added anything to the film versus just executing him in a simple fashion.

One thing I did find a bit weird is you see a big police presence at the start of the film, but then basically nothing except for an interview with the wife after Standard gets bumped? I mean, there's this guy stabbed to death in a diner window, another bloke has his skull stoved in in the lift and everyone just wanders off, but the woman comes back to her apartment at some point, I mean the film basically portrays the authorities clamping down hard on robbery, but random murders are totally ignored.
