Afternoon OcUK,

I'm facing a strange drive issue with a Samsung Evo 850 500 GB SSD.

  • In File Explorer under This PC, when clicking on it it states 'Location is not available' the drive 'is not accessible. Access is denied'.
  • I ran CHKDSK on it, and no issues were found.
  • In Disk Management, the drive shows as '465.63 GB NTFS Healthy (Basic Data Partition)'
  • In Disk Management, if I go > Action > Attach VHD > Browse > I can see all the folders within the SSD, and can even copy and paste out of it when I set the view from Virtual Disk files to All Files.
Questions:

  1. If I can access everything in it using the Attach VHD Browse, how come it's not accessible in standard File Manager?
  2. Is there any way to get it to be accessible again in standard File Manager?
  3. If I take everything off this drive, reformat it, would it then be 'safe' to continue using or is this suggesting it's on its way out?

Any tips at all would be very much appreciated.

Hugh

Sounds like more Samsung failures.

Why are you attaching virtual hard drives when your trying to get a physical drive to work?
Not trying to attach a virtual drive; it was sheer luck that I was trying to find means of viewing what files were on the drive and exploring the drives using that function meant I could access and copy them!

I've copied all the files off it using the virtual drive access and have formatted it. Only way forward it seems.
