How come I can't save anymore data to my drive pool drive when it shows a large amount is free and one of my drives still has lots of space available?, Something wrong?

Yes it is 
I think you can get drivepool to re-optimise - try that.
Also you should remove those visible drives IMO and just have the pool showing, that way you're using the software to troubleshoot the actual problem not diluting the information by viewing drive space usage.
