I have a drive that will boot half way into windows then it restarts (ie windows is buggered)

I move the drive to another machine to get the data off,

however the drive is reported as RAW - but i know its not as it will part boot windows in the other system

Both systems are windows xp sp2..

I know norton goback messes with the partition table and causes drives to appear raw but this one does not have norton go back on..

anyone have any other ideas as to at least tell what is stopping me seeing the partition? (my only guess is that it has been encrypted)

I had same issue after a Mobo fried, HDD appeared as RAW and only option Windows gave was to format.

This got ALL my DATA back.

BTW, Norton GoBack (bought from ROXIO ) was a good idea and it works very well for going back from a ballsup but it does really slow down a PC because its like System Restore only it takes Photos/Images every second or so so PC is always active.

I had to get rid of it long ago.

Linux live cd. Free, safe and will read NTFS if it exists on the drive completely ignoring all the dynamic/not dynamic/maybe raw/maybe not windows malarky.

thanks for the info I'll give it a go, funny thing is I sold the guy a memory stick to back up onto however despite leaving him printed instructions the only data on the backup is the data I put there over a year ago to show him how to do it! He is a bit worried... I did not think it approperate to say hahaha told you do...
