Well no.1 they haven't updated their version since the installer got **** added to it so it's something like 18 months out of date?
Other than that, you don't need it, and it can create more problems than it doesn't fix.

You'll hear 2 things about this.
1. It's useful and doesn't cause problems
2. It's the source of all evil, and even installing it will destroy all your software and require you to reinstall windows from scratch.
Personally I've used it a few times when switching between gpu brands and when I got rid of my creative soundcard and it didn't cause me any problems.
