Driver Advice.

I have just finished re-installing Vista on mate's laptop after their hard drive died. Got everything running sweet except I have an unknown device listed despite installing all the drivers from the HP site

It seems to be something called 3GIO Filter, but google seems to advise against the installation of the driver and it does not appear on the HP site.

Any ideas?

Not sure. Tried Driveragent to see if you get the same result?

My guess is that you probably require a more up to date driver for the ATI HD 3200 that is built into these laptops, as it is probably the audio part that is missing.

did the scan and it comes up unknown device with that, but they want £20 to find drivers!

I know, but sometimes you can work out what it is just from the scan, i.e. did it describe the type of driver?

My first guess is probably wrong, go to ati official website you can download a motherboard/chipset driver for the hd3200 there. A quick search for 3GIO, gave me "3GIO Third-Generation Input/Output (now called PCI Express)"

Ran that - it gave me a device code of HPQ004

googled that and found it was something to do with the Hard Drive
