This is basicly being posted on my mates behalf .

He just accepts the problem and works around it and I can't bear it haha . Unfortunately he lives a few hundred miles away so diagnosing is a little hard over Skype ,

His setup is

I7 950

8gb ddr3 1600
.
R9 280x

750w coolermaster PSU if I remember rightly but will double check exactly which one

....

Basicly what's happening as he describes it is as follows

Boots pc up ,

Goes to watch a video on YouTube or play a game .

Graphic Driver crashes and becomes unresponsive.

ends up having to reset the the machine then the pc is fine for the rest of the day.

He's had this issue science upgrading from a 560ti , he's bin through numerous driver revisions and the problem persists .

The only other thing is I can think of , is the card isn't recieving required voltage in certain senarios due to either the card having an issue or the PSU not giving enough on the 12v rail ... I just can't be sure .

Any thoughts guys

I would suggest the PSU as the cause, does he have another unit he can try?

Nope , don't fancy telling him to go spend a few quid for another :p not long bought this one with his 280x purchase. His old one really isn't up to the task of powering a glow worms armpit let alone power his rig :p

Seems like a PSU problem definitely. How long has he had the psu for? 750W should easily be enough.

Does he have different cables to try?

While this is true, the common cause of these issues is down to the quality of the unit.

I would suggest pointing him in the direction of a 550w Superflower and bin the CM unit.

This , the one is suggested at the time was out of stock (seasonic) at his local store ... So he improvised , saw the name saw the peak output and thought DEAL!!

Can't blame him as he wanted PC up Asap but it diddnt give me chance to check it out much for him.

Reviews seems ok at the time and technical specs should be ample as far as I remember but I can't remember if it was multi or single rail . Also diddnt see any kit guru PSU tear downs or that other chap that's usually amazing on PSUs ) ( forget his name )
