Driver Finder Program

Howday folks,

I'm trying to install Windows XP on my girlfriends laptop, a Toshiba Satellite L40-139.

However, as the laptop comes with Vista I'm having difficulty finding appropriate drivers. Specifically the Wifi card and Audio are giving me problems.

I remember finding a freeware piece of software ages ago, listed on some blog in a "top 10 programs for geeks to have at hand".

The reason I'm going for XP over Vista is that she's lost all her recovery disks (so no Vista disk to hand but CD key on bottom) and I genuinely think that XP will be better for her - faster perceived performance - AND I've got a ligit disk and CD key spare.

With all this hassle if anyone knows where I can get a ligit Vista Home Premium ISO I'd also be grateful for that at this point as well :)

Anyway, my real question at the moment is: Does anyone know what I'm talking about with these driver finder programs? Everyone I find in Google you have to pay for and they all just look like malware...

Cheers,
Roy

I agree. Running vista on that laptop would be a bad idea.

I assume you have tried going into device manager and letting XP try and find the drivers itself online? I know this is a pretty long shot with XP.

I have a CD somewhere which has 10,000 drivers or something on it. Someone gave it to me years ago for just this kind of thing. If you have not found a way to sort this by Monday give me a PM and I should be able to sort some way of getting a copy to you (I am not home until then).

Do you know the specific model numbers etc of the wifi and audio cards? You might be able to get drivers from the specific manufacturer website.

EDIT: just found *removed just in case*. Should solve your problem.

Mods: I am not sure if I was allowed to post this. But I don't think it is a violation of copyright. Let me know if I have broken rules and I will remove.
