hey everyone!

i have a 400gb freecom external hard drive

on the bottom of it, it says

model code: PSOAAA (i've googled this and it comes up for sale on a few sites)
serial number 638.08.01308
P/N (dunno what that stands for): 28147 (UK)

i have just built a new machine and can't get it to work!

i've lost the disc that came with it as i've had it for ages and i didn't think i needed it! i've brought it to mates house's before to watch dvds off it etc and it's always just plugged in and worked with no installations required! i've been on the freecom site but i can't work out which driver i need! if anyone can find it for me i would be very grateful as the HDD has about 4000 songs and 200 movies on it and i would like to get it working again!
btw i'm running vista ultimate! (although i don't think that should make a difference as it worked on my last pc which had vista ultimate too!)

Make sure your USB drivers are installed correctly (your Freecom drive doesn't have any drivers.. the VISTA generic one is used).

It should just plug & play, no drivers required especially with Vista.

How about:
  1. Tried different USB ports
  2. USB port(s) work with other devices, e.g. flashdisk, etc?
  3. Possible to take it round your mates & see if it works with his PC
  4. If above fails, contact Freecom customer service, I'm sure its still under warranty?

ah i see! it still works when i plug it into my xbox! and the usb surely works because it recognizes the device but then tries to install the driver, i click search for driver and it fails! the device does not show up under "computer" as a hard drive either!

ok i've read everything on that stickied thread!

the procedure in the first post doesn't seem to work and if you read down a bit it suggests downloading a driver called "usbstor.inf"
i've located this file and downloaded it, should it just be a notepad file? i put it in Windows Inf folder but this doesn't work although the guy who made the post said it worked for him!

any suggestions?

ok i've clicked locate software manually and pointed it to the C:\ directory! it searches and then comes up saying it has found a driver for it as a mass storage device but could not find the specified file so could not install it properly! any idea?
