Hello yet again!

I have been slowly downloading the drivers I need for my first build. Thanks to members of the forum particularly teppic I have been making some progress. Unsurprisingly however I have a bunch of new questions.

For the Gigabyte Z87X OC motherboard I have downloaded all the drivers except for the USB 3.0. The website has the download but also says a hotfix must be downloaded as well. Unfortunately there are three possible hotfix downloads to choose from and I am not sure if all three must be used or one specific driver from the three. These are shown as follows.....

Hot fix
KB2822241 KB2811660 KB2779768
(Improve USB3.0 Device compatibility)
(Note) After installed USB 3.0 driver, please install Hot fix.

Any help as to which of the downloads beginning with KB I should use would be appreciated.

As for the HD7970 cards I am using, there are a few downloads available. Theses are as follows.....

Catalyst software suite
Latest Beta driver
AMD Catalyst application profiles

And one optional download - Hydravision package

I know thanks to teppic that the latest Beta driver is needed but I am not sure about the others.

And finally, all the drivers I have downloaded so far have been saved to the downloads folder in windows. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to install them? The Motherboard drivers have all been binary files. I am not sure that once downloaded that they just look after themselves on a reboot or if they need to be opened/run or saved to a specific location.

Once again many thanks to anyone who takes the time to read through all this and has the patience to reply.

Hi, thanks for the replies. All drivers are now installed and everything appears to be ok. However, there just had to be one! The SSD which the operating system is running from is fine, but the 2TB Seagate HDD is not appearing anywhere. I have gone into the BIOS and that is not showing anything connected. The SSD and DVD are there however.

Any suggestions on troubleshooting this would be welcome.

Thanks again.

Hello again,

Thanks for all the help, the 2TB drive is now appearing in the Device manager list, probably me being a little thick to be honest! Still can't seem to see it in the BIOS though, but once again probably me not fully understanding everything.

The device manager screen states that the device is working properly. However under the Volumes tab it states the drive is not initialised. Do I need to format/partition this drive? And if so how do I go about it? Finally, assuming I actually manage to get the drive working, how do I go about ensuring that anything I need to store from now on is directed to the HDD and not the SSD? Not sure if to expect different drive letters etc.

Thanks again everyone, this would not have been possible without your very kind help.

Hello again teppic,

Not 100% sure about the SATA controller. There are six ports on the motherboard but did not notice any difference. Not sure about the cables used for the power and data either. If I am missing something just let me know and will pop open the case and change things about if needed.

I'm just about to initialise the drive and I have two options so far.... MBR and GPT. MBT is selected as default so I am guessing this is the correct choice. Not sure how to thank you properly for your time teppic, you have been a tremendous help at every stage of the process. No doubt there will be more questions in the future but for now I will consider the build complete once the step of formatting this drive is complete :)
