Driver install problems with my 5870

Evenin' all, I recently decided to update my drivers because Crysis 2 and Shogun 2 are about to start gracing my machine with their presence.

I uninstall them easily (they weren't in the list of programs in add/remove programs, so had to use the uninstall utility), reboot and try and install 11.4, but on the list of items to install they don't offer the display drivers or Catalyst control centre. The only things on the list on offer to install is the ATI Stream SDK, the hdmi and displayport drivers and the Catalyst install Manager.

I've tried quite a few things so far (twl Catalyst cleaner to get the GPU back to standard vga adapter, different installers etc) and nothing has worked. The graphics card there is working perfectly fine, but the installer just isn't recognising it! No overclocking or messing with the BIOS has occurred, and no problems with the card until now.

Can anyone help?

You could use system restore and go back before you deleted the drivers, then just install straight over the top with 11.4. Most people do this although i tend to use add and remove software option and let the ati manager delete everything first then reboot and install. 11.4 working fine on my 5870.

nope, the old 10.4 drivers don't work either, no option to install the display drivers or the CCC. I usually install straight over the top, forgot to mention that I did try that originally too, but still no dice :/

Sounds like a strange issue.

I would try running the ati unistaller again, and choose to express unistall all ATI software.

Reboot.

Delete, ATI folder under program files.

Install 11.4 drivers.

The key here, is actually running the unistaller again (as it may not have cleanly unistalled) (You may have to install again, simply to run the unistaller)

I ran the uninstaller, and it didn't get rid of the Catalyst Install Manager, only the Stream SDK and HDMI drivers. The CIM is still sitting there in Ccleaner/add-remove programs, and upon running setup it states that 'No components are installed'. This is getting wierder by the second! Is there any way to force the installer to install all of the driver info there?

Run the installer again.

Even if you cant install the display drivers and the ccc, just reinstall the cim, so that after install, you are able to run the express unistaller....

I wouldnt suggest force unistalling the programs, as that will make the matter worse.

You could also try safe mode, install the drivers (or just CIM) reboot, login to safe mode and express unistall

Still no dice, when using the uninstaller it never recognises the CIM once the CIM was installed.

I got annoyed with messing around, and manually directed the Device Manager driver installer to the ATI folder. I now have 11.4 running the card, but no Catalyst control centre. It just doesn't give me option to install either of them at all!

I originally tried the full package, then the display driver on it's own, but upon trying the Catalyst control centre installer I still got:

That's all I get every single time

*edit* Timko I'm on 64 bit

One small update: I have read on other forums that if you remove all of the .net framework it may work. Am sorely tempted, should I?

Sod that, didn't work. I'm out of ideas. Anyone? I might just get a gtx480 and bypass this entire problem!

hang on, will try... Nope no luck, tried both PCIe slots and still no luck. It must be a driver problem, surely?

I usually run the installer from there anyway, saves having to continually re-extract all the stuff to there
