driver install woe

I tried to update my xfire 7950s to 13.10 beta, but it crapped out when installing the driver.

I've tried driver sweeper to remove the broken driver, but if I try to install a new driver package it comes up with an error while installing the install manager, and as soon as the display driver installs it locks up. So I can neither fully uninstall the broken driver nor install a new one on top. No system restore (FUUUUUU!) So my last resort is a month old drive image (thank Christ) but I'm loathe to do that as I have made a lot of changes since then.

Help!

Did you follow this procedure?

-Uninstall current driver
-Turn off Windows automatic driver install
-Reboot and run Driver Sweeper / Fusion / etc
-Reboot and install new driver

Just wondering if the old driver is still hanging around.

Are you running windows 8?

I had a problem with 13.10 beta and windows 8, due to the drivers not being signed off.

I had to disable Driver Signature Enforcement to get them to load correctly.

Foolishly I installed over the top. I couldn't boot into windows anymore, or uninstall from safe mode (I did try uninstalling and deleting the driver from device manager). I ran driver sweeper out of desperation at that point, but Cat install manager is still "installed" despite having no and folders left after the sweep. I have managed to run the uninstaller now though. Installing any driver, 13.9 or 13.10 fails now.

I have disabled automatic installation so at least I can get in and play around.

I'll give that a go. Where is that in the settings? As soon as any driver loads, whether 13.9 or 13.10 my display just locks up. I just want to totally clean out anything leftover that is causing these issues and start fresh

Okay, I regedited out the dead install, cleaned out all the and folders, and was able to install the 13.10 drivers in unsigned mode. The hdmi driver failed to install for some reason, but I thought I was in the clear. Restarted and then it hung. Now I get the windows splash screen and then a black display like before. Whyyyyyyyyyy?!

E:I did redownload the driver as well

Screw it, time to restore from an image. Fingers crossed!

SOLVED: reseated cards and back in business. I'm going to pretend that wouldn't have fixed my problems earlier. I noticed the HIS Turbo sticker had peeled off in the heat so I'm wondering if it was somehow shorting the board below it?

Too scared to install the 13.10 betas now though! But I want that frame pacing!
