Hello I hope that this message is in the correct place.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if anyone has an idea on how to fix it please?

I have been building a new computer and have been getting a 'DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL' error when
trying to load up Windows XP.

I have just bought the following:

1 - GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2
Dual Channel Kit
Hiper HPU-4B580 Type R 580W Modular ATX2.2 PSU - Blue
2 x - Maxtor MaxLine III NCQ 250GB 7V250F0 SATA-II 16MB Cache -
Sony DWG120A 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter
ABIT AN9 FATALITY 32X SKT AM2 MOTHERBOARD
1 x Gigabyte GF 7600GT Turbo SLI 256MB DDR3, PCI-E, Dual DVI, HDTV Out,
Retail with Silent Pipe II
1 x AMD AM2 Athlon 64 Dual Core 4600 Retail Box inc Fan, Socket AM2,
940 PIN

I have raided the two maxtor drives full clean NTFC format and loaded both (NVRAID) drivers which came with the motherboard, not the quick one) and have been getting this messege:

A problem has been detected and windows has been
shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Check to make sure that all hardware or
softwareis properly installed. If this is a new
in stallation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for windows
updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any
newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory
options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to
use safe mode to remove or disable components,
restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup
options,and then select safe mode.

I have read that this could be a memory problem, I upped the power to
the memory to 2.10 volts and tried again but no luck. The memory does have 2.14volts written on the side but the mother board has the option of either 2.10volts or 2.20volts.

Please can you let me know if you have any ideas on how to fix this or
do I need alternative memory? Any ideas would be brilliant.

Many thanks,

Tony

Well its pointing at nvraid.sys so i would point the finger there.

What raid configuration are you running? Without RAID you should not need any extra drivers as standard SATA is on chip.

If you dont need RAID i would just try formatting without RAID and dont use the Nvidia raid drivers, or if you have to, use the latest Nvraid drivers (may have to format again though to install them properly).

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL is normally a memory problem only when a file is not listed at the bottom.

I'd saythat it's a memory problem as well. I had some dodgy ram, and took me ages to figure out that it was the problem. Once I'd swapped it out all the BSODs stopped :)

Blimey!!!!

Thank you that was a really quick response, I wasn't expecting it so quick!

I think I should therefore reformat the system without the raid as single drives,

The raid I used was set up using NVRAID Driver Disk -- Driver Disk 1/1 Version 1.07 for windows 2000, xp and server 2003. It gave me two raid driver options.

This is what I tried to load windows xp to:
478742 MD disk 0 at Id 1 on bus 0 on nraid [MBR]
C: Partition1 [NTFS] 478734 MB (478644 MB free)
Then I formated the NTFS file system.

Then if I still have problems, then the dodgey ram may be contributing to the problem.

Do you think this is the best action?

Many thanks Tony
