Driverless cars

I'm not particularly bothered about the classification system a foreign countries highway board might use.

For me the concept of cruise control is different to that of an autonomous car controlling all aspects of driving.

I would accept a fully autonomous car only if it relieves me of the responsibility for driving and allows me to do things whilst driving I cannot currently do.

If it doesn't do this then I struggle to see the value beyond novelty. Cruise control makes a long journey more pleasant, having a car steer for me on the Motorway makes a long journey even more dull - especially if I then cannot use this layer of automation to allow me to do other things.

It makes life easier if it allows me to do things I cannot currently do whilst driving. Can I sit on my phone behind the wheel of a driverless car? No, I cannot. Can I do work? No, I cannot. Can I do anything really other than sit there looking through the windscreen and not holding the steering wheel?

What exactly is it offering me? It's boredom inducing until such time as it completely removes the need for any human interaction at all. Whilst I appreciate it takes time to get there, I'm not interested in buying products that are basically just development mules for that one day we might situation.

I don't expect you to get it - you don't even feel the need to own a car at all!

Totally agree with this. Personally I enjoy concentrating on driving. Sitting around in an autonomous car waiting for the computer to fail so you can intervene is just depressing. Cannot see the attraction there. It is dumbing down the driver, but then again most people are for the dumbing down of society.

Just a quick summary of your post:

"I see your link which completely undermines my point.

I'm going to completely disregard it because of the arbitrary point that it's not from the UK, as if that makes it any less convincing. I'll also then add a sentence where I'll dismiss what I'm replying to and reiterate my view without any further explanation or justification."

Come on Fox, I thought you were above posting like this. I get you disagree, but I expect a bit more substance from you.

This I can see as a major problem as who going want to look at the road every second on a long drive while the car drives it self..

Exactly. If I'm not legally allowed to spend my journey arguing about cars in here on my smartphone whilst my Tesla drives me then I might as well just drive it myself? :p
