Drivers Tool

Is there a tool out there which can figure out what hardware you have in the machine before actually installing any drivers?

I ask because i have a compaq laptop sitting here with no graphics drivers, i go on the hp website and it finds the model and gives me 2 options in terms of graphics card drivers but neither of them work.

I have been trying to sort this out for days now and its seriously getting on my wick

Any ideas?

Sorry I cant help, but will watch this thread as I have a compaq laptop that I cant get on the wireless network as it doesnt like the driver given on the HP site too

You could try Belarc Advisor or (better, imo) Aida32 if you can find it...I think both of those picked up my GFX before I'd installed drivers.

Tried belarc and sisoft but neither found my gfx card :/

Gonna give aida a go now.

Have you tried UnknownDevices? Or Windows updates might be able to detect it?

Windows updates hasn't got a clue about it.

Aida detected it as IGP-320M chipset but the ati driver for that doesn't seem to work, it asks me to install a standard driver first?

/edit unknowndevices see's it as a mobility U1, is that the same as the IGP-320m?
