Is there a tool out there which can figure out what hardware you have in the machine before actually installing any drivers?

I ask because i have a compaq laptop sitting here with no graphics drivers, i go on the hp website and it finds the model and gives me 2 options in terms of graphics card drivers but neither of them work.

I have been trying to sort this out for days now and its seriously getting on my wick :o

Any ideas?

Sorry I cant help, but will watch this thread as I have a compaq laptop that I cant get on the wireless network as it doesnt like the driver given on the HP site too :(

Windows updates hasn't got a clue about it.

Aida detected it as IGP-320M chipset but the ati driver for that doesn't seem to work, it asks me to install a standard driver first?

/edit unknowndevices see's it as a mobility U1, is that the same as the IGP-320m?
