I've gone back to the 1960s and installed a car port next to my house to house the Lotus and my car lift under cover. I currently have some "gates" but the 4in post is dead and the gates are actually basically fencing and seen much better days.

I've done some of the car port with a mate of mine doing the bulk, but I'd like to give this a go but not massively sure where to start! The opening is about 2.6m, and I just want some c. 6ft tall outward opening double gates.

TIA!

Depending on where you live are you able to install 1. 6ft high gates and 2. Outward opening gates?

Might be worth taking a look at your local council planning website for some advice on that front. Gates that could potentially block a public road or path would generally be frowned upon and in some areas heights to the front boundary should be kept to 1050mm high max for visibility. Outward opening gate would also obscure your visibility.

I'm a chartered surveyor so I'm pretty well versed with the laws...1m on the roadside edge.

However, my drive is ~50ft from the pavement edge and I will be putting them roughly at the edge of the building line (set back slightly due to the position of the first post for the car port).

No doubt there are more videos on YouTube but I like the ProperDIY channel. You could use these smaller gates as a starting point to scale up and clad them in shiplap or T&G to hide the car away.
