Driving Abroad?-GB sticker on car?-Is it needed?

Quick question. I am going abroad soon and realise that I have to have GB displayed on my car by law.

But if the registration plates have that small section where it says GB, is it still necessary to put the large GB sticker on your car, or will the registration plates be enough?.

It's just I dont want to stick anything onto the back of my car, and being it's a Hatchback, a window label is not very visible due to the angle of the glass and reflection.

I guess I could always stick it over the round griffin part on my Vectra

I was under the impression it was a pre-requisite in some european countries, much like the spare lamps, warning triangle, fire extinguisher, high vis vest, first aid kit. It does really depend on where you are going to.
