I passed my test in November (i'm 26), and then flew straight back to Tresco where I live (no cars).

Last weekend was my first ever legal drive. I found a hire car company that would rent me a car without the whole 1 year license thing, and my my. I don't think i've had so much fun in years.

Despite also going paintballing, go karting, clubbing etc that weekend, driving was by far the best thing I did.

Drove about 700 miles, a combination of motorways, A & B roads and city centre - after driving from Bristol to Penzance, all I wanted to do was drive back again!

Is this just a "first time" novelty, or do you still get the same awesome feeling after a while of driving?

I still get the 'awesome feeling' after driving..

Not if I've been stuck in traffic though :p

Everytime i get in my car a massive grin goes across my face! Nearly had it 2 years now too! But i guess it all depends on how often you drive, what you drive and how far you drive!

If i was commuting in a rubbish car for 100 miles every day on motorways i just cant see me enjoying it. However a nice car on some A roads for 20 miles a day could probably always bring a smile!

You get the awesome feeling for a while, then it starts going and to get your high back you have to go faster and drive a little bit more mental.

This goes on and on until 1 day you drive like a loon - then you come very close to killing yourself and probably damage the car pretty badly, then you drive normally for the rest of your life apart from when you've just had a massive argument with the missus, then you drive 'angry-nutterlike'.

All good fun ..
