Driving in Ireland, toll roads?

M50 you buy a pass for from a newsagent etc.

It's fairly easy to avoid toll roads if you want to. I always take a small detour rather than pay them. They don't really cost any time to avoid.

The M50 electronic toll i have never actually paid despite having driven through it probably 10-20 times over the last few years, has everyone else had this experience? The website actually says that they are licensed to collect from all over europe which is slightly alarming looking at the late payment fees :p

Yup, I've driven through the M1 toll tag lane a few times over the past 5 years and haven't heard a peep. I didn't try it when my car was registered in NI though.

Just read that site properly.

So the M50, you pay afterwards, online.

The M1, you pay € at a booth as you pass it.

I'm going from Rosslare to Cork soon, so not as much of a journey as yourself Bledd, but good info none the less.

Although I do have *slightly* further to travel to get the ferry than you do! :(

Say hi to me when you drive past. :p

For the record, you can avoid the toll road at Waterford by taking the junction before, and just going through the town. If you're getting the 0650 arriving ferry, by the time you come through the town, it'll still be quiet.

Or not.

I only do this, because I make the trip a lot of times in that area, and at 1.90e it mounts up quickly.

Sorry buddy no idea how the toll works in Ireland, but I went on a Europe Driving holiday a couple of years ago and they all had toll booths at every entrance and exit, you took a card when you entered the toll, and then returned it when you left the toll, it know how far you'd been on the road for and you paid the appropriate amount. A very good idea if you ask me :) Toll road wise.
