Driving in the States.

My girlfriends borther is on a graduate scheme and it involves 6 months based in the US (Dallas). He has been told that when he's there he will have a car, so he's rushed through his driving learning and just passed yesterday. (obvious pun there in a crash course in driving).

Does this allow him to drive straight away in the states or does a british driving license have a probationary period before your aloud to use it as an international driving license? or can he go and start driving there straight away?
