well, I started my driving lessons 2 weeks back and I have my fifth this Tuesday. The driving instructor has said that I'm doing well and said about putting me in for the practical test in a few weeks which is unbelievable. I asked him if he was joking and he said that he wasn't and that I am doing excellent.

I know I obviously have to take my Theory test first but I've did some mock tests and have scored crap... so I'm wondering if anyone could offer any resources etc. to help as I believe the Theory will be my biggest downfall.

There was no theory test when I passed but of the people I know who've done the theory it seems most of them have passed it first or second time. My nephew took 6 attempts :D

Without any revision I tried an online one and failed it. I went through some revision and then passed.

It's not designed to try and catch you out, just to make sure you have an idea of the highway code.

get the Highway code to read, and get the test CD. Keep doing them, they are common sense really.

i,e,

If you see some children on the street, do you:

a - drive on the pavement and run them over
b - stop and offer them sweets and tell them you are Ian Huntley
c - put on some banging drum and base to impress them
d - slow down

c :D

Get the DVD and do it over and over again. The DVD is far better than the book as it is laid out like the actual test would be and also includes the hazard perception test, something a lot of people fail on simply because they don't know what they are doing.

If you have an iPhone I really recommend the "UK Car Driving Theory Test" app. It costs £1.79 and I used it to pass my theory in three days. Out of interest, as a fellow NI poster, who are you taking your lessons with?

I couldn't believe how easy my theory test was. I suppose there are some questions that could catch you out if you've never read them, but 90% of the answers are 'slow down and be prepared to stop', as above. You get loads of time, and it takes about 5 minutes! Practise the hazard perception a couple of times and you'll be fine!

I got the DVD and did one mock test everynight while checking my emails approx 10min. I passed my car and bike theroy test 1st time ony getting 4 wrong really was exellent DVD.

Hazard Perception is difficult because you don't know if the computer knows that your click registered properly i found.

E.g. I saw a hazard down the road, clicked, but then thought if the computer knew what i was clicking at.

You can click one or two times for the same hazard, but its hard to know exactly when to click to make sure it registers. You can't click too early even if you see the hazard as the computer may not register it.

Learn NOT to double click, click with 1 second apart intervals. So if the first one is too early, you hope the second one is on time and get at least 3 points (out of 5).

Yea i didn't mean to double click. Click, then click again. Not *click* *click*.
