In early March we are heading to York for a week and will be driving up. What nice places are there on the way to stop off to break up the journey? Like somewhere for lunch, or nice places to visit. When we drive to Cornwall we usually stop at Exeter, or some coastal villages or farm shops (I'm a country bumpkin at heart :p).

God, it really takes 4 hours to get from London to York by car?!

Get the train, it takes half the time!

Alternatively, it's only 4 hours, why the need to stop?

We want a car while were up there.

No need to stop, but if there a stuff worth stopping for we may as well.

You're in Surrey? If you're travelling at the weekend, leave in good time, use the M25 and the M1 and you'll be in York for lunch, even with taking a couple of breaks at services.

Alas the GF has decided on a mid week break, before she realised that means driving around the M25 on a Monday morning..... :(

I drove to Luton every day for 6 months... I'm not looking forward to it.

Its not just York. Were staying in a cabin with a hot tub on the edge of the moors. We will spend the week going lots of places.

"Driving from London to a small holiday cabin in the woods 30 miles north of York, sort of near Pickering and that sort of area, where to stop on the way" was too long a thread title :p.

I managed to convince the GF we should stop at Donington to see the Collection. It was great.

Also, the National Railway Museum is my new favourate Museum! Loved it there!
