Not looking forward to it. I still mess up most of my parallel parks when I try it. Probably only make about 25% of them at most. Most of the time I hit the kerb and the rest of the time I go far too wide (though the latter is correctable at least). Apart from that I'm completely fine, can do reverse around the corner and turning in the road completely fine (and have been able to for a while in lessons) and my observations etc are top notch apparently.

What would I do in the test if I hit the kerb during a parallel park? Would it be an instant fail or could I correct it? Even pulling out and starting again? I need to ask my instructor tomorrow morning really (1 hour lesson before test) but anyone know? Also what if I go too wide... better to correct or start again?

It is NOT an instant fail if you hit the curb. If you MOUNT the curb, it's a different story.

If you do have to parallel park just remember to drop your wing mirror down so you can see the curb, go very slowly and the second you feel resistance, pull back out slightly, straighten your wheel up a bit and try again. Parallel parking is probably the easiest maneuver once you have practiced it a bit, you just get a feel for the turning circle of the car and swing it in without thinking twice about it.

Do a lot of practice in the morning if this is the only thing you're worried about.

Good luck matey.

Argh. Appointment at 10:44am.

Sone if I got turn in the road and reverse around the corner I would be very happy! :D .

Rhyzz thanks for the advice. I've NEVER mounted the kerb doing a parallel park so that's a good thing. I tend to just very slightly touch it and I can always tell when I've hit it so I stop (helps going very slowly).

Actually, it's an instant fail if you mount the curb either. A girl I, er, know ;) is a driver examiner so I asked her about this. While it ain't going to impress them much, provided you calmly and competently repeat the manouver, it's not an instant fail.

Congratulations on your pass, mate! Drive safely now.
