Driving theory test

So I have my driving theory test in a couple of hours and have stupidly decided to try and do it with only common sense. Having a look at the online tests - it hasn't gone too well....


...what are the main points that I need to know...

Stopping distances from the Highway Code (which have little bearing on reality any more, since most of the cars on our roads are either better than the guide or so poorly maintained and wearing mismatched ditchfinder specials so that they couldn't even hope to stop in the distances quoted), road signs, road markings, cats eyes colours. That's all the stuff to memorise IIRC. Everything else should be just common sense.

As for the hazard avoidance - I'll defer to those with greater knowledge, I never had to take it.

I relied on common sense; having been a passenger in my dad's car for about 20 years and been learning to drive for a month or so I thought it would be okay. I also went in with the promise to myself that the first answer I gave would be my final answer. I didn't want to review the question and find myself doubting myself.

I got 49/50 in my theory in about 50 minutes!

The hazard perception test was slightly different. I almost failed that... One of the video clips apparently show two hazards. This clip was my first clip and it didn't give me any marks because I was clicking too much. I then slowed down my clicking and managed to scrape through with about 45 or so. I can't really remember, but I remember that I only just passed it!

I'm doing some of these mock tests online and i'm doing awful....have to leave in 30 minutes aswell :/

Did you not get a CD through the post when you booked the test?

I did, but me with my common sense borrowed a CD anyway

I relied mostly on my common sense too and passed without much trouble at all, did a few mock tests though.

I've been checking online tests every now and again.
Need to book my theory for about 3 weeks time I think.

gonna nab a highway code and got one of those interactive PC discs, wanted to see what the hazard percetion videos are like.

I passed.

Got 47/50 on questions and 56/70 on hazard perception.

On the last video for hazard perception I scored 0 because I clicked too much. So don't click too much!
