Hi all.

The girlfriend has managed to break the rear drivers side spring on her 307 shed, after hitting a speed bump to fast  Had a look today after she was saying there was a strange noise. A small bit from the bottom of the spring had broken off. Now with the spring now smaller how safe is it to drive? Dont want the spring popping out while she is driving.

i had one snap last month, best not to move the car unless its been taken to a garage. if its snapped once whos to say it wont snap again and with the state of the roads i wouldnt chance it

You would be suprized how many 5 plus year old motors are scooting about in this state. Springs often break the end coil away usually at the bottom end. It will be fine to drive until it is fixed and then better still thereafter. I say this as it appears to only have lost one coil which is where it winds flatter to the spring end. I doubt you would really notice any serious handling deficiency. Try also to replace the pair unless budget is beyond tight.

I had a spring do this on my 205 (gone now) once,

It made the steering pull in the direction that the spring binded, if that makes sense?

So when I turned a corner, the spring must have got jammed and had a twisting effect on the strut, I yanked the steering wheel too hard on one bend and nearly put the car through the hedge.

It should be safeish to drive but its best not to risk it more than is necessary - ie just drive it to the garage to get it fixed unless its essential, take it a bit easier on the corners/bumps too, just in case

lol Scary. Exept this is a rear spring apparently. ;)

i drove a few hundred miles with a broken front spring, including a fast blast on the autobahn when i picked the car up.

i winced everytime i heard it ping, but it wasn't all that bad tbh
just don't use it if you don't have to :)

My housemate drove around for goodness knows how long on a similarly snapped rear coil in her clio. She never mentioned any problems, but thats not to say there were none! Thankfully it's a simple fix.
