So my tax runs out on the 30th of this month and I dont get my new car till the 11th, but I still need my car for 2 of those 11 days so what trouble could I get in if i declare my current car off the road(SORN) and drive for those 2 days with no tax?

The maximum penalty for making a false SORN, when the vehicle is actually used or kept on a public road, is £5,000 and imprisonment.

Your vehicle could be clamped by one of DVLA's wheelclamping partners. You’ll need to pay to have your vehicle released as well as producing a valid tax disc or a surety fee if no disc is available. If you fail to pay, your vehicle will be impounded, incurring storage charges. If you don’t pay the release or storage fees, your vehicle could be crushed or sold.

Just renew it and cash the tax in later. It'll cost you 20 quid tops in the end.

I fail to see how no tax can affect insurance status. It's not an MOT.

You will get a fine and no points. You will be insured. Don't be a *****, just pay for the tax ad fox says and cash it in.
