I'm looking at trying to pick up a cheap small drone. I only want it for taking some shots while on holiday for videos, not serious dronage but have no idea what I'm looking at as the market seems to move so fast.
It needs to be light and easy to take on holiday, so not massive like some.

Any suggestions you worldly folk?

First, find out what the rules are where you intend to fly it. For the UK, here's a summary https://dronesafe.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Drone-Code_October2019.pdf

Each country has their own rules. Some more strict than others, and some places they are completely banned, but the only notable tourist spot I know of where they're banned is Barbados.

If you have the budget, it has to be DJI. Probably the mavic mini out of the current line up, which is sub 250g so you wouldn't need to register with the CAA, but you still have to stick to the rules. There's also the mavic air, which is an older model, but still an amazing piece of technology if you can find one on the used market.
