Hi,
I have been having a problem for the last few days where after a few minutes or gaming my FPS is totally murdered. For example playing TF2 I go from 50ish fps in busy areas to 12 instantly.
My specification is as follows:
Gigabyte p31-ds3l flashed to BIOS F10a
Intel E5300 OCed to 3.4ghz, orthos stable for 3 hours +
4gb of OCZ Gold RAM, rated at 1066mhz but I am running it at 800mhz for the time being
EVGA 8800GT, vanilla clocks and cooler, cooler running at 60% when gaming
Antec NeoHE 500watt
Windows 7 64bit, used to be fine with this so I guess this isn't the problem
As far as I can see temps are 100% okay. CPU only just gets past 40c when gaming, however the sensors are stuck so that it only increases after 37c. I thought this might be a problem. The graphics card stays around 50c all the time, I seem to remember it used to increase more to around 60c but the winter might of changed that?
The overclock is 3 hours + ORTHOS stable, I presumed that with this level or orthos stability it would take a lot more than a bit of TF2 to cripple it?
I have disabled speedstep and all of the thermal halt functions in the BIOS. For some reason with Thermal Halt enabled the CPU used to throttle down in heavy games like GTA4 despite CoreTemp only reporting 45c. From CPUZ the CPU appears to stay at 3.4ghz all the time however it could be jumping down to 1.5ghz when I am in game?
I use RivaTuner to lower the clocks and fan speed of the 8800gt on boot and I manually up them with a short cut for gaming. Could this regular changing be hurting the card?
I am at my wits end with what to do, just a simple game of L4D is impossible. Even reducing the resolution to 720p and lowering some settings doesn't yield a great improvement. I used to be fine with gaming, I cannot think what I have changed.
What do you suggest I do?
