Title should be Drop in FPS
Any passing mods change it please?

I'm sure my FPS has dropped in COD4, sometimes if there is smoke especially its noticeably slower, some times its close to 200, it always used to stick around this.

Is there anything I can run that would give a quick check that the card is running as it should be?

Spec is in my sig, single GTX 280
Gaming at 1920 x 1200

GPU-Z reports idle temps, 5 mins ago I played COD4 for about an hour.

GPU Temp 63
PCB 56

Seems hot?

Fur mark run at 1280x 1024

[ SCORE: 3652 o3Marks ] - Time: 60000 ms
Max GPU Temp: 81°C - Max Current: 82.3A
FPS: min=48 max=79 avg=61

And a full blast run

[ SCORE: 778 o3Marks ] - Time: 60000 ms
Max GPU Temp: 85°C - Max Current: 90.7A
Resolution: 1920x1200 (FS) - MSAA: 16X
FPS: min=12 max=18 avg=13

Is this normal?

I was thinking about adding a second GTX but won't if this one has problems.

Thanks

I get a bit of slowdown in cod 4 with mine as well, particularly in smoky parts. card is a factory clocked 640mhz core xfx, temps in game after half an hour or so were hitting 75c, (auto fan speed). Currently idling at 41c using gainwards expertool.

Was in the middle of an online game last night and the system suddenly froze. Also considering a second one.

Mine is stock clocks

Zotac card GPU @ 602 and Mem @ 1107 Mhz.

The idle seems way high to me, I might pull it out and clean it, maybe strip and replace the TIM.

Is that idle with the auto fan speed setting.

Clocks on my xfx are.

Core. 640mhz
Mem. 1200mhz
Shaders. 1404mhz

A clean out may help, as when i built my i7 rig i gave the card a bit of a clean while it was out of the case, knocked 5-6c of the temps, still a bit worried about this freezing though.

Much better

Furmark runs

[ SCORE: 3853 o3Marks ] - Time: 60000 ms
Max GPU Temp: 64°C - Max Current: 76.2A
Resolution: 1280x1024 (FS) - MSAA: 0X
FPS: min=56 max=82 avg=64

[ SCORE: 790 o3Marks ] - Time: 60000 ms
Max GPU Temp: 77°C - Max Current: 87.1A
Resolution: 1920x1200 (FS) - MSAA: 16X
FPS: min=12 max=19 avg=13

Idle doesn't seem much better though.

The paste was really bad and contact wasn't good either, I put on much less fresh paste and then something a little drastic, I filed a tiny bit off the metal mounting pillars so it pushes the heatsink into a better contact with the GPU.

Also the screws didnt seem that tight, loose in fact.

I'm happier for now.
