I noticed someone here mentioned dropbox - googled it, great idea.

I want something like that to backup and sync between netbook and PC

but i noticed a few limitations - such as only backing up a single "drop box" folder.

Any others to look at that you can specify which folders to do?

Does it need to be an online thing? If not, SyncBackSE is pretty good for syncing drives/folders.

I think you can do it to an FTP server as well but I've never used that functionality of it.

dont get the problem, just put things in that folder that you want synced ??

But if you want to sync most of your documents, photos etc, then that's just a nightmare.

Found one after lots of reading up - Syncplicity

Very lightweight, costs me $9.99 a month for 50gb space, which i'll use nearly all of.

The application is very quick and small, you install, choose which folders you want to Sync, then it uploads in the background.

Add it to another computer (ie. my nc10) and it downloads them all in the background into the similar folders (ie. My Pictures)

When you open a document, change it and save it, it will automatically upload it to your online backup, and automatically download it to your second computer. For example - i wrote a letter on my PC, buggy came to pick me up. Saved the letter, grabbed my NC10, turned it on and had the letter (internet access dependant of course)

Considering i've got 8 years of photos on there that i've never backed up, i think this will be perfect for me.

All files also available to view and edit online, and if you edit, they get downloaded to your PC & laptop for example.

They also keep revision copies for a month, as well as deleted items

ive found dropbox great for uni work, can work on my main computer when im at home, if i am at uni and do some work fire up the nc10, and it downloads the version from dropbox and i can continue working, same for if i am finding journals or anything just put them in the dropbox and they are on both my laptop and my home pc....

dont find having to keep everything in one dropbox folder too much of a problem, you can have subfolders within the dropbox and they get changed on the server and on the computer you download to automatically....

i.e

Dropbox
------->UNI
----------->Fine Dining
----------->Business strategy
----------->managing service quality
----------->Honors Project
-------------------------->Sources
------->Misc
------->Pictures

etc
