I’ve been given a Laptop that has been dropped a few times by the looks of it.

It’s an Acer Aspire 1682WLMi has the 9700 graphics.

The display shows a lot of corruption with seems to be coming from the motherboard if you flex the case it can clear it with pressure applied to it.

I was hoping to get this working for the kids. Anybody know where the display ribbon / cable attaches to the motherboard does it go to the graphics card?

Thanks Dutch

I will upload some pics later.

i think the graphics chip is intergrated onto the mainboard, usually taking the strip cover off above the keyboard, may require screws removing and taking the keyboard off should show the lcd cable to mainboard connection, usually just a block type connector, if your getting the same on external VGA connector i would say it was the mainboard at fault, usually a dry joint on the gpu BGA, if its fine on external maybe damage to the lcd's delicate pcb this can cause corrupt output,

Thanks for the reply,

Yes same corruption on an external monitor, could do with a service manual cant work out how to get the screws out below the LCD

Thanks Dutch

the strip above the keyboard should pull off, there maybe screws on the hinge covers, this should allow the keyboard to come up, but seeing as you are getting the corruption on the external i would say the mainboard is buggered.

Thanks for the info, yep got it all apart and looks like its the motherboard thats gone.

At least I can strip it down now and sell the bits :)

Thanks Again Dutch.
