My daughter has dropped her beloved Ipod touch last night and now a 50p piece shaped area at the top of the display doesn't work.

Are these things fixable? If so any recommendations on where to send it?

Or is it off to the bin?

Thanks for any advice.

How old is it? If it's a current (ie. from September 2010 onwards) you can pay the replacement fee for a new refurb unit at the Apple Store.

You should be able to with the generation prior to that as well.

Otherwise, I'd look around for replacement displays, and use the iFixit guide to replace.

No idea about the price, but I'd assume it'd be around £100.

Another option is to contact an Apple Authorised Service Provider and get them to do the job. Should be cheapest that way (aside from doing it yourself). You'd also keep your warranty this way.

As advised you can fix it yourself, however i can speak from experience and tell you that the LCD screens and digitisers found on the bay are all pretty poor quality. Digitiser isn't a huge deal, the lcd screen though is reasonably noticeable.

Also since the 4th gens are so slim, they are a PITA to fix, and its try hard to make the front glass "sit right", to the extent many people are not satisfied with the repair.

If it was me and my iPod,id fix it for 20 notes and be ok with it possibly not feeling quite the same. If it was for someone else, id shell out for the apple refurb.

Gen 2 and 3 easy to repair, gen 4 is a nightmare and can look **** if casing has dented.
