Hi,

So was just checking into a hotel and my MBP was in my bag which fell off my suitcase. Result is a nice big dent in the side/ top where the keyboard is, and the bottom plate is all misaligned. :(

Luckily it all appears to work Ok and apart from a microscopic dent in the lid, it seems to just be the 'main' shell affected.

Can someone tell me if Apple will just sell me that piece of the case, and how much it would be? I have never opened my MBP up but I assume it cant be that hard to take apart?

Alternatively are there any guides on getting dents out by hand? I mean it won't be perfect, but at least I could flatten it all out again hopefully?

Thanks

I don't know where you're based, but round here we've got a Premium Reseller & Authorised Repair Centre that's been here long before the Apple Store itself. I personally would go to them for a repair, as they should beat Apple's labour rate.

I've got a dent my the latch/IR sensor on mine from dropping it, and a dent by the DVI port from a cricket ball hitting it. Just like the Dell Latitude business laptops these MBPs seem pretty good at taking the impact as cosmetic damage and protecting the actual hardware .

Yeah that's them, Farpoint Developments.

I used them for AppleCare repairs on my MBP for a few years before Apple themselves opened. I've always found them to be fine, but I imagine they must be pretty hacked off now Apple have opened up in Bath too - they obviously can't really compete with Apple price wise on the hardware, but out of warranty labour/upgrades and service quality/business support I imagine is what they're gonna concentrate on now.

Cool I'll head down there and let them take a look.

Any ideas at all what i can expect in terms of pricing? If it's less than £150 or so, I'll probably let them do it, as I am worried the bulge in the flat part (Where the KB is) is going to damage the screen if left unfixed.

Thanks
