currently I'm using a dell 3007, which while still a great monitor is getting long in the tooth, having a Duel DVI interface only it is limiting what i can upgrade my graphic card to (currently a 980ti)

if i Drop down to a 1440 from 1600 will i notice much of a differents or i'm i doomed to the current range of 1600+ monitors

I’m going from a 30” Dell U3014 2560*1600 to a LG 27” 3840*2160. The Dell is probably better for desktop use and I’ll have to use major scaling if I want to run 3840*2160 on the LG. Gaming should be fine though, with a powerful gfx card obviously.

I wanted an upgrade on the 2560*1600 which is why I went 4K couldn’t stand the thought of dropping down to 2560*1440 but that’s probably ok and much cheaper than 4K 144hz.

Should say that I wish to stay above 30" but under 40"

Not many options out there for 30” 4K 144hz and above, anything that is will be horribly expensive. You’d probably need at least 38” to run 4K 144hz with less scaling. This only applies to desktop usage.

I figured that 27” iMacs run 5120x2880 in OSX which uses a lot of scaling by default and if they run Windows 10 in boot camp they’ll have the same scaling issues to contend with.

That said it can be done and there are some 27” iMac users running Windows 10.

I bought a 32" LG 165hz g sync 1440p jobbo, best thing I ever did. I'd rather run higher FPS at 1440p than lower at 4k

The way I see it is that 4K graphics cards will only get cheaper and better and there’s nothing wrong with running a 4K monitor at a lower resolution for the time being if you don’t have the latest and greatest graphics card.
