Just got back from my cousins whom I built a system up for and installed Ubuntu on it for him.

They are N00bs at computers and are very pleased with Ubuntu. But the dreaded problems have arisen.

To explain.. They just got back from holiday and bought an Ipod but sound juicer would only rip as OGG. Having never used SJ I ran a test here and emailed x amount of screengrabs on how to change format... but mp3 option didn't exist on their machine.
I've been pretty unwell this past week and couldn't think straight. I went round there and did a Dist update from Feisty to Gutsy.

That didn't cure it.. I then ripped the bloody thing in K3B as I remembered spending ages getting that perfectomundo before giving them it.

Now for the real problem.
For some unexplicable reason When they turn the machine on it's dropped the bloody WEP key again. ( Every cold boot)
Why the heck is it doing this and how do I cure it ? I've showed em how to re-enter the key but it's far from ideal keep having to do this.

Back to the Sound Juicer issue.

Yeah.. One week later and feeling a tad better I realised they never had restricted extras enabled. ( Doh!) Job sorted.
Just the bloody Key issue now.

hhhmmmmm I feel your pain trying to support people who don't know computers, let alone linux. I hate to say it but might save you loads of hassle for you if u install windows.

I love linux, aint worth you wasting your life helping them :p

I realise my views are totally against the principle of linux, im in a silly mood. Sorry <3

i have the same problem on the one comp here but the other is fine. upgrading to 8.04 sorthed it but its still alpha isnt it?

Are they using KDE? If so, can KWallet be used to store the key for them?

As for having them use Windows... it'll just mean that you'll be asked plenty of other questions - like why does the homepage now go to midgetporn.com instead of Google, why has the machine ground to a halt and why has their bank account been emptied all of a sudden. :p

They're using Gnome.

As for the Windows bit....... lol

I dual booted it with XP and when I checked that out I found my cousins daughter had gone and stuck Limewire on it !!

/me shakes head.
Still... They said she's the only one who uses the windows side. They love ubuntu.

I havent used ubuntu in a loonnng time I installed it heard of Debian then installed that.

As for not being able to rip to MP3 have you got lame installed? check that maybe?

As for the person using windows to make use of limewire (ugh) There is a version for linux afaik or you could try frostwire it's a free version of limewire that is as good as the paid version.

Ktorrent R0Xx0r

It's installed and I emailed destructions how to use it. But she's soooo ...er..... "stubborn"? She sez she doesn't want to download a whole album. I told her how to get individual stuff but...

Beez in Bonnets ..etc.
