My girlfriend drove us into Nottingham today. Due to the Park and Ride site we normally use being closed on Sundays, we decided to park in the city centre.

We somehow became lost in a one way system, and while attempting to correct our course my girlfriend took an exit at some a junction with traffic lights. On closer inspection, the exit she took was for buses/trams only.

The sign which stated this was no bigger than an actual traffic light bulb it's self and was actually inbuilt into the surround of the traffic light unit.

My girlfriend took the exit and we only noticed the sign as we were actually passing through the traffic lights.

She didn't go through any red light, though from a technical perspective disobeyed a traffic sign.

I had a walk up the street once we'd parked, and there appeared to be some form of camera attached to the rear of the traffic light for the bus/tram only exit to record vehicles passing through it, so I'm 99.9% certain we'll be getting a nice little surprise through the post.

Will this be endorsable with penalty points, or is it just likely to be a fine? I'm not angry with her at all, because Nottingham is a nightmare to drive around when you aren't familiar with it, and the bus/tram only sigh was very small.

Cheers

I don't believe it is endorsable unless it can be classed as driving dangerously, I think it will be the same as driving in a bus lane/ignoring a no right turn sign. A letter in the post and £60 out of your wallet.

A few years ago when I had just passed my test, I found myself in a similar situation in Sheffield. So angry at myself at the time, makes me laugh a little now I'm a little wiser. Didn't hear anything about the 'offence' either... ;)

I did something similar in an unfamilar place - Had a tiny sign saying 'Buses & Taxis only' as well as a camera.

Never heard anything about it.

I did the same thing myself recently, turned into what looked like a road leading to the local asda's as there appeared to be an entrance into the carpark, as i got closer it turned out it wasnt an entrance at all it was an exit and as the was too narrow to turn around I had to continue passing through a bus only lane.

The traffic lights also had what appeared to be a camera ontop, a nice chat got out of his bus and walked over, he assumed i had taken the wrong turn and actually agreed that the signage was a bit pants. said if i reverse 5-10 metres the light would change green.

All the camera was, is a sensor to detect when a vehicle is there so the lights change.

I did this on the way back from ocuk, stoke once.

I saw a police woman walking towards me, expecting the worse I wound my window down and said "hi, how do I get to the M1 i'm really lost" before she could say anything:o

I think it's usually 3pts?
