Made a very stupid mistake today, was driving in Romford, got a bit lost as I am unfamiliar & new with the area, and looks I drove into a route that is "except for access", along with "buses only". This is the bit next to Romford station and the shopping area if anyone knows the area.

I think it's guaranteed I will get a PCN for driving through the "buses only".

How likely am I to get a FPN and possible points on licence for the "except for access" sign?

So annoying. As it's easy to miss the small signs and the roads look normal with traffic coming the opposite way, so couldn't tell it was 'special' area.

Would be gutted if I get point for that! :(:(:(

You were visiting FOR SALE property.
This. There’s a road near us that is access only, but it’s a known cut through to avoid queues down the main road. Never actually been stopped on it (it’s not camera monitored), but if I ever were, I was looking for an address/going to the chippy (it was shut), looking at property, etc.

I would have to prove that though wouldn't I?

Can they actually give me points on licence via CCTV? To my knowledge they can't, if it's just a fine I'll take it.

Another poor sod followed me behind the Bus only bit of which the road marking for that isn't visible properly, captured on my dashcam.

Bus lane probably has a camera, the access road probably doesn't. Otherwise how would they filter people who have access from those who don't?

They can't, and don't, that's the whole point. Anywhere that says except for access basically says drive in if you want. Unless it's no 7.5t+ except for access, cause it usually means you wont get out the other side if you're in a larger vehicle. If you got stopped, you don't have to be going anywhere, you could just be wanting to go to that road, if that's what you want. To get to that road you need to be on that road..so..

Driven down countless 7.5t "Except for access" routes over the years in a 44t artic, never once been stopped.

The bus lane you may be done for but not the access violation.

You won’t get points. You may well get a PCN which you can choose to appeal or not based on signage compliance etc

I've been driving around Heathrow's perimeter road that has an "except for access" sign a few times a week for 8 years. You'll be fine :)
